Tom’s Celebrity Playlist
April 30th, 2010 by Katie received Comments OffForgive us for the old news, but hey, we were on hiatus when this happened. Back in March of last year, Tom’s celebrity playlist was published on iTunes. Here is the full track listing, as well as what Tom had to say about why he chose each song:
“Gimme Shelter”–The Rolling Stones: “Pure violence, with the most painfully beautiful female vocal from Merry Clayton.”
“Girl from the North Country”–Bob Dylan: “It makes me think of my first love.”
“Cigarettes and Coffee”–Otis Redding: “Just intimacy.”
“Beside You”–Van Morrison: “This was an arbitrary decision, everything the man signs makes me feel alive.”
“Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun”–Pink Floyd: “My dad gave me a metal box of his old records when I was around eleven and this was inside.”
“Suzanne”–Leonard Cohen: “Out of reach.”
“I Can’t Write Left-Handed (Live)”–Bill Withers: “I remember my whole musical education began when my best friend played me this song.”
“Dropout Boogie”–Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band: “There is a world where people shed tin teardrops and this is top of the download charts. It is a better place.”
“A Whiter Shade of Pale (Live)”–Procol Harum featuring The Danish Radio Concert Orchestra: “I seem to always hear this song through my stomach, it feels like when you go down a small hill quickly in a car.”
Tom’s playlist can be accessed only through the iTunes UK store, so if you’re from anywhere else and want to see it, be sure to change your location at the bottom of the store page. According to iTunes, buying the entire playlist will set you back £7.91
